Çandır Canyon

Lost in the mountains and reached by adventurous souls, Çandır Canyon lies just to the south of Lake Kovada. This area is perfect for climbing, trekking, jumping, swimming, enjoying untouched nature and history.

Çandır Canyon is a tranquil spot where a clear, swift flowing river emerges from a steep-sided canyon, flanked by a well-preserved section of the ancient King’s road (Kral Yolu) which dates from the fifth century BC, and once stretched from the Aegean coast all the way to Babylon. 

Swimming in the icy cool water is possible in numerous shady pools. You may camp beside the water or follow the gorge upstream to view several inscriptions cut into the cliff-face from whence the canyon gets its Turkish name — Yazılı, meaning ‘with writing.´ 

There’s a tiny shop in the village of Çandır 1.5 km below the canyon, where you can usually buy trout from fish farms or eat it already prepared in one of the small restaurants.

Getting there:

Çandır is 65 km from Eğirdir.  There is no local dolmuş/transport, but we are happy to organize a transport for you.

Please Note: Since Kovada National Park and Çandır Canyon are both in the same direction from Eğirdir, you can also easily combine the visit of both sites within one day.
