Traditional Village Barla
Nestled in a steep valley, dominated by a dramatic limestone spur which plunges down from the Barla massif and seldomly visited by foreigners the village Barla is definitely worth a look.
The traditional village of Barla is a local village 25km north of Eğirdir on the west side of the lake. Until 1923, the village was inhabitated by a fifty-fifty mix of Greeks and Turks. Now it is inhabited by religiously conservative but friendly locals.
Many brick and timber houses, although neglected nowadays, line the streets and create a special atmosphere. Orchard of walnuts, cherry and apricot trees compliment the melancholic charm of these houses, as do the numerous village springs, twisting cobbled lanes and minarets.
